Namakkal: A powerloom worker died after falling into a small water-filled roadside pit while returning home in an inebriated state near Tiruchengode in Namakkal district late on Friday night.
The deceased has been identified as Mohanraj, 40, of Kumaravelipalayam near Sankari in Salem district. He is survived by three daughters aged 15, 14 and 13. “When he was about 500 metres away from his house, he stumbled and fell into a small roadside pit where rainwater had stagnated.
Police said the incident took place when Mohanraj was returning home after consuming alcohol in excess. He died on the spot,” said an officer from Elachipalayam police station. His wife separated from him several years ago and has since been living separately with their children. Police who were alerted, recovered the body and sent it to the Tiruchengode government hospital for a postmortem. Elachipalayam police have registered a case and are investigating further.
