Kochi : Elamakkara Police have begun an investigation after an Odisha native was found dead near the railway tracks at Puthukalavattom under suspicious circumstances on Saturday.
The deceased was Ajit Naik, 31, a native of Ganjam district. Man held for sexual assault: Ernakulam Railway Police arrested a 27-year-old man on Saturday for allegedly sexually assaulting a minor girl aboard the Rajarajeshwari Express in Sept.
Police said no deep wounds were found on the body, and there was no indication of him being hit by a train. Police said the cause of death would be clear only after receiving the postmortem report. Police sources said as per preliminary investigation, Naik died elsewhere and his body was dumped near the railway track. Police sources said some suspects are being questioned in connection with the death. Police said the accused changed the clothes he was wearing after the crime and walked several kilometres to evade arrest. He was traced and arrested following a scientific investigation, they said.
It is suspected that he died after being stomped on his chest and neck. The body was found during an inspection by a night-patrol team after a loco pilot alerted the police early Saturday. A relative of the deceased from Kundannoor took custody of the body. He allegedly fled after the incident.
