Secular-minded voters targeted for deletion through SIR, argues Goud

The emergence of CCTV footage has added a fresh dimension to the case

Hyderabad: Telangana Congress president B Mahesh Kumar Goud on Saturday accused the BJP of targeting secular-minded voters through the deletion of names from electoral rolls, alleging that a large number of voter names had been removed, with Muslims, the poor and adivasis accounting for a large proportion.

He also alleged that nearly 97% of cases registered by the Enforcement Directorate were against industrialists affiliated with the opposition parties. Because of the RSS, claiming that his comments had been misquoted, on the controversy surrounding remarks about Kerala, Goud clarified that Ramesh Chennithala had not said the Congress won. Referring to the electoral roll issue, Goud said similar concerns had emerged in Musheerabad, where an FIR had been registered. In an informal interaction with media persons, Mahesh Goud alleged that the BJP raises the issue of foreign origins whenever it faces difficulties. He claimed that the BJP remained silent over alleged Chinese encroachments into Indian territory and accused the Modi govt of undermining constitutional institutions. He questioned the drastic changes in election results between the assembly and parliamentary elections in Maharashtra within three months, alleging that similar developments had occurred in West Bengal and Bihar.
