Green tanker services from Nov 1: The wider industry impact

The emergence of CCTV footage has added a fresh dimension to the case

Hyderabad: The HMWSSB is set to launch green water tanker services from Nov 1 to supply treated sewage for construction, landscaping, gardening and other non-potable uses, as it steps up preparations to meet the city’s water demand during the coming summer. The initiative aims to increase the use of treated wastewater for activities that do not require potable water, thereby reducing pressure on freshwater resources.

Alongside expanding treated-water supply, the board has directed officials to ensure that STPs meet prescribed quality standards. Officials from the projects, O&M and AMRUT departments will jointly inspect STPs to assess treatment processes, laboratory performance, water quality testing and record-keeping practices. Deficiencies in plants that fail to meet the prescribed standards must be identified, and agencies concerned will be asked to undertake technical improvements. Additional filtration systems and further treatment processes will be considered wherever necessary. Corrective measures to improve water quality will be implemented within a month.
