Hyderabad: Amid growing concerns over a looming water crisis, only 61 of an estimated 600 private sewage treatment plants (STPs) in Hyderabad, barely 10%, have registered with the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB).
The water board has set Oct 25 as the deadline for private STPs to complete mandatory registration. Registration is mandatory for STPs operating in apartments, gated communities, commercial complexes, hotels, hospitals, educational institutions, industries and other private establishments. The exercise aims to build a database of private STPs, including their treatment capacity, daily sewage treatment volumes, treated water consumption and the quantity of surplus treated water available for reuse. Private STP owners can register online through the water board’s website at https://hyderabadwater.dawc.in . Applicants must provide details such as the establishment’s name and address, contact information, STP capacity, daily wastewater treatment volume, treated water consumption and availability of surplus treated water.
Water board managing director K Ashok Reddy has urged owners of unregistered STPs to complete the process immediately, warning that only a few days remain before the deadline.
