Roads Ahead: Officials discuss DULT’s proposed road survey and mobility plan for Puttur at a meeting
Ramachandra said junction improvements would be among the key areas of focus, particularly at locations facing frequent congestion and traffic bottlenecks. Ramachandra said several Puttur junctions faced major issues, while space constraints ruled out road widening at some locations. Proposed interventions would depend on scientific assessments of turning angles, visibility, the space required for traffic islands or roundabouts, and the availability of land. The survey would identify possible interventions and guide future development when funds and land become available.
Mangaluru: Puttur has been selected among four towns in the Mysuru division for a comprehensive road survey and mobility plan by the Directorate of Urban Land Transport (DULT), with the study expected to pave the way for phased improvements to junctions, road connectivity, footpaths and traffic management. The study will document road widths, junctions, traffic movement, parking facilities, public transport and pedestrian infrastructure using GIS-based mapping. The existing road network will also be assessed against the town planning authority’s master plan proposals to identify missing links and safety concerns. DULT will fully fund the study under the State Urban Transport Fund (SUTF), with a Bengaluru-based consultant.
