Kanpur: Chakeri police registered a case against Congress rural district president Sandeep Shukla and his supporters following a complaint by a Bharatiya Janata Party functionary. In his complaint, he alleged that Shukla had made objectionable remarks against Assembly Speaker Satish Mahana on his Facebook page.
Complainant Anshu Gupta, a Safipur Pratham resident and BJP Yuva Morcha mandal vice-president, alleged that objectionable remarks were posted against Mahana on Oct 17. He accused Sandeep Shukla, Congress workers Tarun Patwa, Ankit Kanaujia, Ravi Patwa, Nikhil Gupta and other unidentified people of posting a video and tarnishing Mahana’s image.
Because congress workers were raising issues concerning Maharajpur Assembly constituency, he alleged that the cases were being filed.
Shukla, however, claimed that the complainant had a criminal background and said that this was the seventh case registered against Congress workers at Chakeri police station. Chakeri police station in-charge Ajay Prakash Mishra said that a criminal defamation case has been registered. Further legal action will be taken on the basis of the evidence, said the official.
Shukla further alleged that BJP workers had recently surrounded and beaten Congress worker Ravi Patwa, but police were not registering Congress workers’ complaint. The police and the cyber cell team are conducting a technical investigation into the alleged posts and fake IDs through which the comments were made.
