Kanpur : A Defence ministry employee’s wife was killed and he was injured after a speeding truck hit their scooter near Tatmil late on Sunday night.
Seema (42) and her husband, Hemant Kumar , were returning to their Chakeri home after offering prayers at Baradevi Mandir when the truck rammed into the scooter, throwing the couple onto the road. Some passers-by alerted police emergency service 112. Seema came under the wheels of the truck and died on the spot. The truck driver fled the scene, abandoning the vehicle.

Babupurwa station house officer Neeraj Ojha said an FIR had been registered on the family’s complaint and further action was being taken. Babupurwa police inspected the site and sent Seema’s body for post-mortem. The truck was taken into custody. Police are searching for the driver. Kumar, a resident of Anand Nagar Jugai Purwa, is a Class IV employee in Defence ministry. Download the TOI App.
