Fire at bicycle seat factory in Begampurwa, Babupurwa, Kanpur, on Monday afternoon destroyed goods and household items
Kanpur: A fire broke out at a bicycle seat factory in Begampurwa, Babupurwa, Kanpur on Monday afternoon, destroying goods and household items worth around Rs 2 lakh. The factory, owned by Shamshad, was running on the ground floor of Imran Husain’s three-storey house, built on 100 sq yards near Idgah Shifa Masjid. The fire started around 2:30 pm after sparks reportedly came out of a junction box on an underground power line outside the factory. Nearby foam and rexine materials caught fire and the flames spread quickly to the second floor, with smoke rising about 25 feet high.
No casualties or injuries were reported, while three families living on the upper floors were rescued.
Chief Fire Officer Deepak Sharma said a short circuit appeared prima facie to have caused the fire. His family lived on the upper floors. Residents raised an alarm and helped Imran evacuate family members from the building. Three fire tenders from Kidwai Nagar, Fazalganj and Latouche Road fire stations reached the site. Firefighters broke open the factory shutter and sprayed water from several sides, bringing the blaze under control after about an hour.
