Dhaba worker among 2 held for killing employer in Dharashiv over humiliating behaviour

Dharashiv LCB team can be seen with the two arrested accused

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar : A dhaba worker was arrested, along with friend, in the early hours of Monday for allegedly murdering his employer in Dharashiv district on Oct 15 over what he described as the owner’s recurring humiliating behaviour, including forced him to scrub spit stains from areas already cleaned. Police said Ramesh Pandav Meher (32) from Odisha, had been working at the dhaba for three months. Inspector Vinod Ijjapwar of local crime branch said, “Meher conspired with Mohammed Waris Safol Ansari (19) from Deoghar in Jharkhand, who was working as a waiter in Pune, to assault hotelier Shubham Dharmaraj Somwanshi (26). Police probe revealed that Meher lured Somwanshi to a secluded roadside spot on the night of Oct 15.

The accused tried to throw investigators off the trail by travelling across four states, according to Dharashiv superintendent of police Ritu Khoker Kalyan. “They moved through multiple locations in Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana to mislead police,” she said, adding, “Technical analysis helped LCB track and arrest the accused. Somwanshi, however, fought back and overpowered Ansari, after which the two picked up stones and repeatedly smashed Somwanshi’s face, killing him on the spot,” police said.

“Ansari was waiting nearby and attacked the hotelier with a bamboo stick after he arrived on his motorcycle.

A case of murder has been registered at Bembli police station, and further investigation is under way.
