Ahmedabad: The district education officer (DEO), West, has imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on Solaris Public School on Sola Road for failing to upload details of students admitted under the Right to Education (RTE) Act on the govt portal. Due to the school’s administrative negligence, none of its eligible students received the annual educational assistance of Rs 3,000 provided by the state govt.
More than 80,000 RTE students studying in schools across Ahmedabad’s East and West zones have received the assistance this year. However, the issue came to light after a parent of a student from Solaris Public School complained through the chief minister’s Jan Samvad portal about not receiving the benefit.
After examining the school’s response, the DEO imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 for the first instance of the violation. The inquiry revealed that the school management and principal had failed to enter the details of RTE students on the govt portal. Following the complaint, the DEO West office initiated an investigation. Taking serious note of the lapse, the DEO office had issued a show-cause notice to the school and directed the principal to appear in person and explain the failure. The school has been directed to deposit the penalty through a govt challan within two days and immediately upload the details of all eligible students to ensure they receive the benefits under the scheme.
