CPM Kannur district secretary K K Ragesh told a news conference that the issue was discussed in the party district meet in the context of the party’s performance in the last assembly election. He said the party should have fielded candidates from minority communities in the district. He said the issue had been evaluated at various levels within the party, including by the central committee.
“There were sustained efforts to spread false information among minority communities with an intention to distance them from the Left. The party will intervene to regain the trust of people from minority communities,” he added. The two-day extended meeting has inducted Iritty-based young leader Zakir Hussain into the district secretariat, while area secretaries M C Raghavan and M Sreedharan have been included in the district committee. Kannur : The extended Kannur district committee meeting of the CPM which concluded on Monday, observed that a section of the minority community in Kannur who had traditionally supported the party had been misled by misinformation campaigns during the recent assembly elections.
