Some brides change into a second outfit for their reception. Ejae, the singer-songwriter behind KPop Demon Hunters, had an entire wedding wardrobe worth talking about.

The artist, whose real name is Kim Eun-jae, married Samuel Kim, a music producer who later became a computer programmer, in Seoul over the weekend. And while the wedding brought together family, friends and two different traditions, it was Ejae’s choice of outfits that made the celebrations especially memorable. From richly coloured Korean hanboks to a custom Danielle Frankel wedding gown and a sparkling Zac Posen reception dress, every look had its own personality. There was plenty of modern bridal fashion, but the traditional details felt just as special.

The couple chose Stage 28 in Seoul for their wedding, a venue with deep family connections for Ejae. The festivities included the Paebaek ceremony, a welcome party featuring Korean fusion cuisine and the outdoor exchange of vows on October 17. For the occasion, Ejae wore a striking hanbok designed by Han Eun Hee. The outfit paired a deep red skirt with a green-and-gold top, bringing together rich colours and traditional Korean craftsmanship. It was a departure from the white wedding dresses most people expect to see, and all the more striking for it. She later changed into another hanbok for an indoor gathering with friends. This time, the palette was softer, with lavender and butter-yellow tones giving the outfit a lighter, more relaxed feel. The change also made sense for the occasion. After the formalities, Ejae wanted something comfortable enough to wear while spending time with her guests. The tulle details added a playful touch without losing the connection to Korean wedding traditions. For the outdoor ceremony, Ejae turned to New York-based designer Danielle Frankel for a custom wedding gown that felt romantic without being overly traditional. The strapless dress featured an elongated bodice with asymmetric pleating, creating a sculpted shape through the torso. Below, a softly bubbled hem gave the gown a distinctive silhouette, while a nude chiffon layer added a light, almost weightless finish. And then there was the veil. With its long train trailing behind her, it brought just the right amount of drama to the look. But one of the most personal details wasn’t part of the dress at all. Ejae completed her bridal ensemble with heirloom jewellery passed down from her grandmother. In a wedding filled with meaningful nods to her family and heritage, it was a lovely way to carry a piece of that history with her. For the reception, Ejae changed into a custom chiffon creation by Zac Posen. The body-skimming dress featured a sparkling finish and a long train, giving her a softer, more glamorous look for the evening celebrations. She kept the styling elegant, pairing the gown with diamond earrings, a sleek high bun and statement makeup. Where her Danielle Frankel gown had a sculptural, almost architectural quality, the Zac Posen look leaned into movement and shimmer. The two dresses felt different enough to stand on their own, while still fitting naturally into the same wedding. Samuel, meanwhile, wore a custom double-breasted tuxedo made with Loro Piana fabric by New York’s Bhambi’s Custom Tailors. His classic black-tie look complemented the occasion without competing with the bride’s changing wardrobe. The property was once the home of her maternal grandfather, veteran actor Shin Young-kyun, and now houses the Shin Young-kyun Arts and Culture Foundation. Ejae spent much of her childhood there, playing in the garden and walking in the surrounding hills with her grandfather. Speaking to Vogue, she recalled those memories fondly, explaining how much time she had spent at the property as a little girl. Choosing the venue meant the wedding wasn’t just a celebration of the couple’s future. It also brought Ejae back to a place tied to her childhood and family history. What made Ejae’s wedding style stand out was the way each outfit served a different purpose. The traditional hanboks honoured her Korean heritage, the Danielle Frankel gown brought a modern bridal sensibility to the ceremony, and the Zac Posen dress added a little evening sparkle. Nothing felt like a repeat of the look before it. And beyond the designers and beautiful fabrics, there were the details that made the wardrobe hers: a family heirloom, a venue filled with childhood memories and a traditional ceremony shared with loved ones. For brides planning their own wedding wardrobes, there’s something worth taking away from that approach. You don’t have to choose between tradition and contemporary fashion. Sometimes, the most memorable wedding style comes from making room for both.

Before the couple exchanged their Christian wedding vows, they celebrated with a Paebaek ceremony, a Korean wedding tradition in which newlyweds pay their respects to their elders and receive their blessings for married life.
