The disruption at Google’s cloud operations in London on Tuesday (October 20) hit several websites and mobile apps like ING Germany, Revolut and Halifax, among others. Google Cloud service outage has disrupted the daily functioning of several banks, financial firms and public service providers in the UK. Outage tracker Downdetector also showed a small number of reports of issues in the UK affecting HSBC, Bank of Scotland, property website Rightmove, parcel delivery firm DPD, state-run National Health Service (NHS) England and Royal Mail, as per a report by news agency Reuters.
British digital bank Revolut suffered a service outage linked to the disruption at Alphabet’s Google Cloud, a person familiar with the matter told Reuters. Google’s status page said multiple services in the europe-west2 region were experiencing issues.
Revolut’s status page showed most of its services were unavailable or only partly available, including card payments and ATM withdrawals. The bank posted on X: “We are currently experiencing a service disruption affecting multiple services. That data centre is mainly meant for customers in the UK and Ireland.
