The car in which the Bharuch PSI & two friends were travelling on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway near Manubar village
Surat/Palanpur/Ahmedabad: At least 11 people, including a police sub-inspector (PSI) and three youths returning after Navratri revelry, were killed in separate road accidents – five in Banaskantha and three each in Bharuch and Gandhinagar districts on Monday night and Tuesday. The deceased were identified as PSI Yash Patel, a resident of Vadodara; Parth Patel (27), from Mehsana; and Asfak Momin (28). The deceased were identified as Govind Chauhan (30), the GRD jawan and a resident of Dholiya village, and Pavan Kharadi (23), a resident of Ambapani village, both in Amirgadh taluka.
The occupants were reportedly returning after playing garba through the night when the driver lost control. Adalaj police launched an investigation. The unidentified vehicle driver fled the scene, and police launched a search.
Their car first rammed into a tempo moving ahead of it, according to preliminary information. “The couple was returning to Deesa after Chehara underwent dialysis at Palanpur Civil Hospital,” said KM Vasava, sub-inspector at Gadh police station. “We have launched an investigation to identify the vehicle and its driver,” said BD Gohil, inspector at Amirgadh police station.
The three friends were travelling to Bharuch to meet another friend. Another vehicle reportedly hit the car, causing it to overturn and sustain extensive damage. The tempo driver allegedly abandoned the vehicle and fled. Taluka police sent the bodies for postmortem examinations and began an investigation. In Gandhinagar district, a man and two women were killed and another was injured when a car carrying four youths overturned near Maharaja Hotel on SG Highway, under Adalaj police station, early Tuesday. The car allegedly hit a divider before overturning and crashing into a tree. The deceased were Dhrolvirsinh Rana, a resident of Vastral in Ahmedabad; Aastha Rathod, originally from Rajkot and residing at Ambawadi Girls’ Hostel in Ahmedabad; and Vaishvi Sheth, a resident of Bodakdev in Ahmedabad. In another accident in Banaskantha, two friends, including a Gram Rakshak Dal (GRD) jawan, were killed when an unidentified vehicle hit their motorcycle near a cement factory on the Amirgadh-Abu Road highway late Monday night.
Rathod was pursuing the final year of her MBBS course at a medical college in Ahmedabad. Another occupant, Vaishvi Sheth of Bodakdev, succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment at a hospital near Vaishnodevi Circle, taking the death toll to three. The fourth occupant, identified only as Smit, sustained critical injuries and was admitted to Jivraj Mehta Hospital.
