Looking back at a candid interview from October 2024, the retired NFL quarterback spoke honestly about the challenges his three children face while growing up with a famous father. Tom Brady spent more than two decades proving himself on the football field, but fatherhood has taught him lessons no Super Bowl victory could prepare him for. Brady also admitted that he has made mistakes as a parent. His comments offered a rare glimpse into his family life and showed how he wants his children to chase their own dreams, even when the odds seem stacked against them.
“To be a boy, [it] s*cks to be Tom Brady’s son in so many ways,” he said, per Us Weekly. “There’s a lot of challenges I faced as a kid … my kids naturally are gonna be faced with their own challenges, and they gotta figure out how to overcome them.
Rather than expecting his children to follow in his footsteps, Brady said he wanted to help them find their own paths. He recalled being a backup quarterback on his freshman team and said they never pushed him to abandon his ambitions. “Whatever our kids choose … we gotta support [them],” Brady said. “The blessings my parents gave me was when I was that long shot as a kid who was a backup quarterback on a freshman team … they never said, ‘Man, don’t do that. They kind of said, ‘You know what, go for it.
Jack, for instance, hoped to become a basketball player, despite not having the same jumping ability as his father might wish. Brady credited his own parents for giving him the freedom to pursue football when success was far from guaranteed. It’s gonna be too hard. Let’s do something different. Let’s think about another backup plan. Whatever you wanna be, go for it. And that’s probably my parenting style. ” Looking back, Brady’s comments showed a different side of the NFL legend. His record on the field may be extraordinary, but his approach to fatherhood rests on something simpler: supporting his children, accepting his mistakes and letting them discover who they want to become.
