The emergence of CCTV footage has added a fresh dimension to the case

Agra : A 29-year-old man allegedly shot at his 24-year-old sister following an argument over their younger sister’s love marriage in Agra’s Trans Yamuna locality. The woman sustained a bullet injury to her back and was taken to hospital where she is said to be in a stable condition, police said on Wednesday.

ACP Shweta Verma said the incident took place in Tedhi Bagiya area around 11.30pm on Tuesday, when Baby Kumari was cooking in the kitchen and her brother Rahul alias Chauba, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, opened fire with a country-made pistol. Preliminary investigation revealed that Rahul was upset with Baby for inviting their younger sister, Tannu, 21, to the house. Her friend, Iram, alerted police through the emergency helpline 112. Based on the complaint, an FIR was registered against Rahul under BNS section 109 (attempt to murder) and provisions of the Arms Act.

Tannu had married against the wishes of the family around two years ago, police said. Kripal also said that he had approached police twice earlier with complaints about harassment within the family, but no action was taken. “Further legal action will be taken after the accused is arrested,” Verma said.

An argument broke out between the siblings, following which Rahul allegedly shot at Baby, before fleeing. Their father, Kripal Singh , lodged a police complaint, naming Rahul, his elder son Sumer Singh, in his 30s, and Sumer’s wife, Rajkumari, as accused. He claimed that timely police intervention could have prevented the shooting. Sumer and Rajkumari were also named in the FIR.

Kripal alleged that a family dispute had been continuing for a long time and that the accused had threatened to kill him and his daughters. He also alleged that Tannu had visited the family home with her husband, Sachin, last Saturday, during which Rahul assaulted her.
