The emergence of CCTV footage has added a fresh dimension to the case

Kanpur: Unnao police have solved the murder of a young man whose body was found locked inside a box on a highway service lane and arrested his 28-year-old wife, Neha Rawat, and YouTuber Jitendra alias Rahul Singh for allegedly killing him.

Neha and Jitendra allegedly killed Sonu Savita (28) at his rented room in Kanchan Nagar, Shuklaganj, on Monday night before transporting the body 21 km to Lalaookheda in the Sadar area, according to police. Police said Jitendra allegedly consumed alcohol with Sonu from around 9 pm. Neha and the two labourers travelled in the vehicle and unloaded the box on the service lane of the Unnao-Lalganj highway around 8 pm.

Police said she later left her husband, Jagdish, and four daughters and moved in with Sonu in Shuklaganj. CCTV footage helped police trace the loader used to transport the box. Investigators found that the vehicle’s driver had no role in the crime. Around midnight, after Sonu became heavily intoxicated, Neha allegedly struck him on the head with a grinding stone (sil-batta). She and Jitendra then allegedly assaulted him with bamboo sticks and smothered him with a blanket, causing his death. A bulldozer repair shop operator noticed it about an hour later and informed police. Sonu, a resident of Panchamkheda village in Hasanganj, had met Neha nine years ago. After living together for two years, the couple solemnised a court marriage.

SP Jaiprakash Singh said the preliminary investigation indicated that the deceased’s wife and her YouTuber friend were involved in the murder. Two other individuals have also been detained, and further legal proceedings are under way, he added.
