New Delhi: BJP national president Nitin Nabin Wednesday urged party workers to draw inspiration from the sacrifices of Jana Sangh veterans and strengthen the organisation, saying the party had evolved from a movement that once struggled for offices, transport and basic resources into the world’s largest political party.
Delhi BJP president Harsh Malhotra recalled the Jana Sangh’s role in opposing the Emergency imposed in 1975 and said its leaders had prioritised ideological commitment over political power. Around 20 veterans associated with the Jana Sangh era, including Prof Jagdish Mukhi, Ram Bhaj, Mool Chand Chawla and Ved Vyas Mahajan, were felicitated at the programme.
Addressing a programme organised by Delhi BJP to mark the 75th foundation day of the Jana Sangh, Nabin said the younger generation must carry forward the party’s nationalist ideology and work towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi ’s vision of Viksit Bharat and making India a Vishwaguru . They also envisioned a democracy that cared for everyone, where the benefits of development reached the last person, the roots of cultural heritage remained strong, and India emerged as a self-respecting nation,” Nabin said. Gupta said the BJP’s journey from the Jana Sangh was rooted in the principles of nation first, upliftment of the last person and the decades-long sacrifice and dedication of party workers. The vision of a developed India can become a reality only when every citizen of the country understands his or her responsibility and contributes to nation-building,” she said.
Chief minister Rekha Gupta and Delhi BJP president Harsh Malhotra were also present. “During the freedom struggle, lakhs of people made sacrifices with a single objective — to make India free and independent. “The objective of the BJP is to build a New India, inspired by the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his resolve for a developed India. We have to build an India that is developed, self-reliant, empowered and prosperous.
