New Delhi: With complaints of garbage piling up and delays in waste collection continuing to pour in, chief minister Rekha Gupta Wednesday directed Municipal Corporation of Delhi ( MCD ) to launch night-time cleaning drives in residential colonies and major markets ahead of the festive season. CM warned that negligence in maintaining cleanliness would not be tolerated and asked senior officials to conduct field inspections to ensure visible improvement.
“Complaints are being received regarding heaps of garbage lying around and delay in garbage collection in some areas of Delhi,” the CM said, directing MCD to deploy additional sanitation workers and hire new staff, if required, for night cleaning operations. “The exercise would help keep markets and residential areas clean during peak daytime activity,” CM said. Officers will have to go into the field and ensure that the instructions given are being followed,” Gupta said.
“Merely holding meetings and preparing reports will not improve the system.
