Anthropic introduces Claude Duet AI agent app for professional

Anthropic has introduced Claude Duet, a new AI-powered app designed to help professionals and small business owners manage their work with less manual effort.

“We built Claude Duet for professionals and small business owners with more on their plates than they can track,” Anthropic said. The app can monitor connected accounts, flag tasks that need attention, prepare reports and handle work in the background, even when users step away from their devices. Unlike a chatbot that waits for instructions, Claude Duet can proactively alert users about important updates and help complete tasks across different apps. The research preview is now open through a waitlist for users in the US with Claude Pro and Max subscriptions, with access available on iOS, Android and the web.

Claude Duet: What can the new AI agent do

The app is built around Anthropic’s Claude Opus 5.5 model and is designed to decide which tasks need immediate attention and when it should ask users for guidance. Claude Duet can connect with more than 6,000 connectors and plugins through the Claude Marketplace, allowing it to work with tools used by businesses. The company has also introduced additional safeguards to protect sensitive information.

Claude Duet is designed to help users manage busy schedules and prioritise important work, according to the company. Claude Duet also carries over existing memory, skills and connected apps from a user’s Claude account, which Anthropic says should make setup easier. Anthropic says Claude Duet is designed to ask for permission before taking important actions on a user’s behalf. The system is designed to block requests to share highly sensitive details, such as credit card numbers and government identification, according to Anthropic. Anthropic says support for a richer visual editor for Shopify storefronts is coming soon.

Each morning, it can send a short summary of key items across connected apps. It then checks those accounts every few hours and sends notifications when something needs attention. Users can also assign tasks, ranging from scheduling meetings and drafting emails to building dashboards, preparing financial forecasts and developing web apps. One of the key features of Claude Duet is its ability to continue working when users are away from their phones or computers. The app uses a virtual machine with its own browser to carry out tasks in the background. Users can send instructions through text or voice in a single ongoing conversation and receive a notification when a task is complete or requires their review. The app can read messages, draft replies and prepare work independently. However, it must seek approval before sending messages, making payments, signing documents or deleting anything. Some actions, such as trading securities or transferring money between accounts, are not allowed even with user approval. Other sensitive information, including health and personal financial details, can be shared only when users have explicitly instructed the app to do so. These integrations can help users find missed messages in Gmail and Slack, track unpaid invoices through QuickBooks or Stripe, prepare payroll in Gusto, draft job postings for LinkedIn and manage customer information in HubSpot. It can also help businesses create marketing campaigns using Canva and manage Shopify stores. Users can also make business purchases through Link, Stripe’s digital wallet, and use Shop Pay for online checkout. Support for signing in to websites through saved 1Password logins is planned for a future update. Anthropic has opened a research preview of Claude Duet through a waitlist, starting with Claude Pro and Max subscribers in the US. The app is available as a standalone offering on iOS and Android, as well as through claude.ai. During the preview, Claude Duet shares the same usage limits as the user’s existing Claude plan. Background checks and complex tasks can consume those limits more quickly than ordinary conversations. You use AI every day. Now get your AI Quotient. Take the AIQ test.
