Ahmedabad: With Diwali less than a month away, AMC’s standing committee on Thursday decided to instruct temporary sweet and farsan stall owners to keep rapid testing kits.
He added that hence, instructions have been issued to make rapid testing kits available at these stalls so that primary testing of colours and oil used can be conducted on the spot. “Additionally, directives have been given to buy state-of-the-art machinery so that sample test results can be obtained quickly. Standing committee chairman Kamlesh Patel said, “During Diwali festival, temporary stalls selling sweets and savouries come up at various locations. Getting lab results for food samples collected from such stalls takes six to seven days. By that time, the stalls close down, making it difficult to take timely action even if the food items are found to be sub-standard or fail quality checks. Prioritising public health and safety, the health department has also been directed to hire extra staff as needed to make food quality testing more effective,” he added. Download the TOI App.
