The govt order (GO) issued by state govt in 2021 mandated the inclusion of govt nominees in selection committees.
Sources said the decision would help several hundred faculty members working in minority-aided colleges to get approval for their appointment and will ease the financial burden of the colleges. The GO was opposed by minority colleges. Chennai: Ending the four-year deadlock over the appointment of faculty members to minority institutions, Tamil Nadu chief minister M K Stalin on Saturday announced these institutions can form the selection committees without the govt nominees.
Earlier, AIACHE said 34 Christian minority institutions in TN did not get approval for the appointment of more than 350 faculty members and principals in the last four years.
“According to the new GO, all minority colleges in Tamil Nadu can now form selection committees with their own panel of experts. However, they need to get qualification approval for newly appointed faculty members from universities,” an official from the higher education department said. We thank CM M K Stalin for helping us exercise our constitutional minority rights,” said Paul Wilson, vice-president of AIACHE.
They need not include the nominees from respective state universities. “This announcement would be a huge relief to minority institutions as they can constitute their own panel of experts in recruitment.
