Nagpur: Taking cognisance of the hazard posed by a damaged chamber on the underground optical fibre network, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation’s (NMC) Laxmi Nagar Zone has issued a notice to a telecom conglomerate.
As per the notice dated Oct 19, the civic body had informed the company’s staff about the broken chamber along West High Court Road near Deo Nagar Chowk on the phone on Oct 10 but no action was taken. Assistant commissioner Dhananjay Jadhav told TOI that the civic body had received several complaints from citizens about the damaged chamber. However, no action followed, prompting the administration to issue a notice,” Jadhav said. “If the company doesn’t repair the chamber, we will get it done, recover the cost and also impose penalty,” Jadhav said.
The notice warned that any accident resulting in loss of life or property would invite action against the company, and directed it to repair the chamber immediately. The chamber has broken concrete covers and an exposed section along its edge, with debris and dry branches inside. Parts of the chamber appear uneven and displaced, leaving an opening along the side that could pose a hazard to pedestrians and motorists. “A junior engineer from the zone contacted the telecom company’s staff, who assured the civic body that repairs would be carried out. The notice also makes it clear that the NMC may initiate further action if the telecom operator fails to address the problem. Download the TOI App.
