Revanth calls for a massive Telangana rally in Delhi over voter list
Hyderabad : Chief minister A Revanth Reddy on Friday said the AICC leadership has called upon party leaders and workers from Telangana to mobilise 10,000 to 15,000 people for a massive rally to be organised by Rahul Gandhi at Ramlila Maidan in Delhi on November 1 to protest against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. He alleged that nearly 13 crore votes had already been deleted and claimed that the number of voters had declined from 97 crore in 2024 to 84 crore for the 2029 elections. He said the Delhi rally should strengthen the party’s campaign to protect the poor’s voting rights and pave the way for the Congress’s return to power in 2029.
Drawing parallels with the Simon Commission established by the British in the past, Revanth said the campaign against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar would revive a similar struggle against attempts to undermine democratic rights. He called for the slogan “Gyanesh Go Back” to be raised during the November 1 rally. Revanth accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of attempting to establish two categories of citizens in the country — wealthy people with voting rights and poor people without voting right. He questioned how the electorate could shrink while the country’s population continued to grow. CM Revanth further alleged that PM Modi was attempting to use the SIR process to overcome growing public opposition, unemployment and protests among Generation Z.
