Lucknow : A couple from Maharashtra’s Thane district reached Bachhaipur village in Basti district on Thursday in search of a mother-son duo accused of allegedly fleeing with jewellery and cash borrowed from them nearly four years ago.
The accused allegedly borrowed jewellery worth lakhs of rupees and Rs 38,000 in cash from her on the pretext of attending a relative’s wedding, according to Shama Parveen. The mother-son duo also allegedly borrowed Rs 7 lakh from their neighbour, Shabana Bano.
The complainant, Shama Parveen, a resident of Barkiya Compound in Bhiwandi, Thane district, Maharashtra, said the mother and son from Bachhaipur village had been living in a rented house in Mumbai around four years ago. After learning of the couple’s arrival, the accused reportedly locked their house and fled. The couple then approached Chhawani police and submitted a written complaint seeking the recovery of their valuables and money. During that period, the two families became acquainted. They reportedly assured her that the money and jewellery would be returned later. They reportedly promised to repay the money after selling their ancestral land in the village following the wedding. However, they allegedly failed to return the money and jewellery. The complainant further alleged that the mother-son duo had similarly taken cash and jewellery from several other women by promising to repay them.
