Uttar Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer Navdeep Rinwa cast his vote in the MLC graduates’ and teachers’ constituency elections on Friday.
LUCKNOW: From round-the-clock CCTV surveillance and videography to an uninterrupted power supply with generator backup, Uttar Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Navdeep Rinwa on Sunday directed officials to ensure comprehensive arrangements for counting votes polled in the biennial elections to 11 Legislative Council constituencies, comprising five graduates’ and six teachers’ seats.

He also directed officials to appoint counting agents for all candidates according to prescribed procedures, issue photo identity cards to them and arrange adequate seating. All returning officers were instructed to continuously monitor preparations and ensure peaceful, smooth and timely counting. Reviewing preparations through a video conference with returning officers (divisional commissioners) and assistant returning officers (district election officers), Rinwa stressed strict compliance with Election Commission of India (ECI) guidelines. He directed officials to ensure adequate security at counting centres, install CCTV cameras and arrange videography to monitor the counting process. The CEO also instructed officials to coordinate with the power department to prevent electricity disruptions and ensure generator backup. Generators must be installed at locations where they do not cause noise or pollution at counting centres. Rinwa emphasised the need for proper training of counting personnel and timely arrangements for counting tables, statutory forms and other essential materials. Download the TOI App.
