The emergence of CCTV footage has added a fresh dimension to the case

Varanasi: What was planned as a 12-point welcome for Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his way from Police Lines to Namo Ghat for the IAF air show turned into an impromptu roadshow on Sunday, as enthusiastic crowds surged behind barricades, eager to catch a glimpse of their MP.

Later, in a post on X, Modi said, “The love and blessings received from my family members during the roadshow in Kashi had left me deeply emotional. The remark reflected his connect with the city, which he represents in the Lok Sabha and frequently describes as his spiritual home. Families, young people and elderly residents gathered behind barricades from early in the day to see the Prime Minister.

At Namo Ghat, the Prime Minister was scheduled to witness the air show. However, the journey itself became one of the highlights of his visit, with the public turnout lending it the character of a spontaneous celebration. The reception also showcased Kashi’s familiar blend of devotion, politics and cultural pride. For BJP workers, the response underlined the city’s continued enthusiasm for its MP ahead of the formal programme on the ghats in Varanasi.
