Pune: After the defence department lodged a complaint against illegal constructions on Lohegaon-Wagholi Road, the civic body on Saturday demolished structures on nearly 20,000 sq ft, said PMC officials. Civic data shows that between 2020 and 2026, PMC building permission and the enforcement department issued 24,000 notices under the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning (MRTP) Act against unauthorised structures across various zones. Illegal constructions spread over around 21,000 sq ft were demolished earlier this month in a drive in the Nagar Road area where the land was reserved for a playground, according to PMC officials.

“The construction was taking place adjacent to the boundary wall of the Air Force Station and involved diverting the flow of a natural stream (nullah),” said a senior official from Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). Civic officials said the construction of a two-storey building was being carried out without permission. The municipal corporation team also conducted a similar drive in the Ganapati Chowk area of Vimannagar after the demolition on Lohegaon-Wagholi Road, according to civic officials.

The property falls in the bomb-dump range of the Air Force station. The action was taken against encroachments within the front margin space. A six-storey residential and commercial building had been constructed on the land. Download the TOI App.
