Lucknow: Lucknow’s 400-year-old Katki Mela, also known as Budakki ka Mela or Ganga Snan Mela, is all set to return to Jhulelal Vatika on the Gomti riverbank from Nov 24 to Jan 7.
The fair traditionally begins on Kartik Purnima, when devotees take a ritual dip in the Gomti. It is known for its range of traditional goods, including earthenware, grinding stones, winnowing baskets, wicker baskets, iron tools, crockery, bangles, furniture, carpets and blankets. Food stalls serving local favourites and rides for children are among the other attractions. Despite the growth of shopping malls and online marketplaces, the fair continues to draw visitors looking for traditional products and affordable household items.
