Apple introduces new iPad mini with bigger OLED screen and A20 Pro: The wider industry impact

The new iPad mini starts at Rs 82,900 in India

The new iPad mini moves to an 8.5-inch OLED display, up from 8.3 inches, and pairs it with the A20 Pro chip, IP67 water and dust resistance, and a 5.4mm body that is thinner and lighter than before. Pre-orders open in India on October 28, with sales starting November 6. It is also the first proper redesign since 2021, after the 2024 model arrived as mostly a chip and storage refresh.

Apple announced the tablet two days before its “Pro and tell” event on Wednesday, giving the smallest iPad a spotlight of its own. Two years after a quiet chip bump, the iPad mini is back with a proper redesign. The timing stands out.

iPad mini price in India now starts at Rs 82,900

The footprint stays the same despite the bigger screen, thanks to bezels that are 24% thinner. Peak brightness climbs to 1,200 nits, more than double the previous model, and the display can dim to just 1 nit for late-night reading. The iPad mini also supports Siri AI, arriving in beta with iPadOS 27.2. Apple’s N1 chip adds Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6, and cellular models get the C2 modem with up to 50% faster data speeds. The Wi-Fi model costs Rs 82,900, while the Wi-Fi + Cellular version is priced at Rs 1,00,900. Students can get it from Rs 76,900 with education pricing. The 2024 iPad mini went on sale at Rs 49,900, before a price hike earlier this year took it to Rs 69,900.

A nano-texture glass option, until now limited to the iPad Pro, is also available to cut glare outdoors. The 12MP Center Stage front camera moves to the landscape edge, fixing the off-centre framing on video calls. A new Acoustic Display routes bass through the screen for fuller sound.
