Tirupur : A textile worker was arrested for murdering his homosexual partner by hitting him on the head with a grinding stone at a rented room in Chamundipuram on Saturday.
Police said the deceased Muthu , 26, and the accused Chinnaram, 21, both from Madurai district, were working at a private knitwear unit and living together on the terrace of an apartment building near Chamundipuram. 15 Velampalayam police who were alerted, recovered the body and sent it to Tirupur Govt Hospital for a postmortem. Police launched a search for Chinnaram, who was missing from the room.
“No such video was found on either of their mobile phones,” the officer added. Meanwhile, police also scotched rumours that the murder was linked to alleged threats involving a video. The crime came to light on Sunday, when neighbours found Muthu dead inside the room. Meanwhile, Chinnaram surrendered at Usilampatti police station in Madurai district on Sunday, after which a Tirupur police team secured him and brought him to Tirupur for interrogation.
“During questioning, he revealed that the two had been living together for about six years.
Chinnaram objected to the marriage plans, and the quarrel escalated, following which he allegedly used a grinding stone to assault Muthu, killing him,” said a police officer. An argument broke out on Saturday night after Muthu’s family began looking for a bride for him.
A case has been registered and further investigation is underway.
