Louis J Pinto, president, Mandd Sobhann, speaks about the attempt to set a Guinness World Record through Konkani singing marathon, in Mangaluru on Tuesday

Louis J Pinto, president, Mandd Sobhann, told reporters on Tuesday that the 12-day, 12-hour and 12-minute marathon, titled ‘Konko’nni Niro’nto’ri–So’msar So’raso’ri’, will be held at Kudmul Ranga Rao Town Hall from 6am on Nov 3 to 6.12pm on Nov 15, after Goa CM Pramod Sawant inaugurates the convention at 5am. Over the marathon, singers will perform more than 4,500 unique Konkani songs by 250+ composers without repetition, directed by ‘Sangeeth Guru’ Joel Pereira.

Pinto said, “The Guinness World Record is a target and a medium, while our primary mission is uniting Konkani people globally to showcase the richness of Konkani music and instil cultural pride. Pinto said, “In this relay-style marathon, each group performs for one hour with under 30 seconds between songs, backed by nearly three lakh human hours of practice.”

MP Capt Brijesh Chowta, district minister UT Khader, MLA Vedavyas Kamath, MLC Ivan D’Souza along with local leaders from Goa, including Calangute MLA Micheal Lobo, and Siolim MLA Delilah Lobo are expected to attend the inauguration of the event on Nov 3. Chief minister DK Shivakumar will grace the valedictory ceremony to be held on Nov 15.

“The estimated Rs 3 crore budget is an investment in Konkani’s future, not an expense,” Pinto said.
