The new 14-inch MacBook Pro gets Apple’s first 2nm chip, the M6.

Apple has refreshed its 14-inch MacBook Pro with the new M6 chip. The update adds two more CPU cores and faster graphics, and battery life now reaches up to 24 hours, the longest Apple has ever rated a Mac. Prices in India start at Rs 2,39,900. Pre-orders open on October 28, and sales begin on November 6.

M6 is Apple’s first 2nm chip, and the company is pitching this MacBook Pro hard on on-device AI, from Siri AI in macOS 27 to running large language models locally. Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 also arrive through Apple’s N1 wireless chip, which was previously limited to the M5 Pro and M5 Max configurations. Both the CPU and the GPU now have 12 cores, two more than M5. Apple claims up to 30 per cent faster graphics and up to 25 per cent quicker AI workloads than last year’s model. The Dual 16-core Neural Engine is rated up to 1.9 times faster. Apple says Xcode builds run up to 2.5 times faster than on the 13-inch MacBook Pro with M1, and battery life goes up by as much as four hours. It keeps the 1,600-nit Liquid Retina XDR display with an optional nano-texture finish, along with the 12MP Center Stage camera and six speakers. The ports are also unchanged: HDMI, MagSafe 3, three Thunderbolt 4 ports, an SDXC slot and a headphone jack. With the 96W adapter, which costs Rs 8,900, the battery charges to 50 per cent in 30 minutes.

“With the powerful M6 chip, we’re taking performance to the next level,” said Shelly Goldberg, Apple’s vice president of Hardware Engineering. On the outside, little has changed. The design, display and ports carry over from the M5 model. Memory starts at 16GB and can be configured up to 32GB, with bandwidth of up to 170GB/s. The jump is bigger for anyone still on an M1 machine. The rest of the laptop stays familiar.
