Addressing a press meet at the District Congress office here, he said the Congress had launched a nationwide ‘Save the Vote, Save the Nation’ campaign under the leadership of party president Mallikarjun Kharge and leader of the opposition in the LS Rahul Gandhi . Haveri: AICC observer Kamaleshwar Patel on Tuesday alleged that officials were removing eligible voters from electoral rolls under the guise of special intensive revision, putting India’s democracy and Constitution at risk.
He alleged that more than 68 lakh names had been removed in Bihar and nearly 10 million in Bengal, with similar complaints emerging from Karnataka. He announced that Congress and INDIA alliance leaders would hold a mega rally at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan on Nov 1 to defend voting rights, democracy and the Constitution.
Patel said responsibilities had been assigned across Karnataka to expose alleged flaws in the SIR process and create awareness about protecting voting rights. “The SIR exercise was being misused to delete genuine voters and add ineligible names, citing concerns raised by Rahul Gandhi over reported irregularities in Haryana, Maharashtra and Karnataka’s Mahadevapura constituency,” he claimed. “Removing voters without giving them an opportunity to be heard was unacceptable,” he said, and demanded transparency from the Election Commission , especially where software-based verification was used.
Patel also accused the Centre of ignoring inflation, unemployment and corruption. He criticised alleged attempts to silence journalists and opposition.
