Hyderabad : Fearing that they had become a burden on their daughter and were keeping her away from her husband, an elderly couple from Siddipet district travelled to Basara intending to end their lives. Their plan, driven by a mistaken belief that their death would help reunite their daughter with her husband, was foiled when police tracked them down and rescued them before they could consume pesticide.
When the couple went missing, Renuka approached the Chinnakodur police and sought help in tracing them. Using mobile phone location data, police found that the couple had travelled to Basara and alerted local police. Deepak deployed a search team, which traced the couple to a room in a lodging facility. During the search, officers found a container of pesticide in their bag, confirming fears that they intended to end their lives.
Police immediately seized the pesticide and intervened before the couple could act on their plan.
Their daughter, Renuka , had been living with them after returning from Bengaluru to care for her ageing parents. She had taken the decision with the consent of her husband. Satyanarayana and Govindamma, residents of Vittalapur village in Chinnakodur mandal, left home on Monday without informing their family, according to Basara circle inspector S Deepak.
