Former Thane mayor Meenakshi Shinde summoned
Meanwhile, tensions escalated in Thane as police detained Purnekar’s son, Ram, while he was attempting to launch a protest outside the residence of deputy chief minister Eknath Shinde to demand swift action in the murder case. They took him to Naupada police station. Visuals purportedly showing ACP Ravindra Daundkar pushing Ram into an auto surfaced, raising concerns over the manner in which police handled the situation. Ram’s detention triggered protests outside the police station, with opposition leaders, activists and members of the Purnekar family and their supporters assembling to express their displeasure. They blocked the road and demanded the immediate arrest of the Shinde couple.
“CCTV footage pointed out the circumstantial evidence, yet no action has been taken,” said Ram. The family had also claimed that Amit Singh was a “dummy accused” allegedly introduced to protect Rajendra. The Purnekar family has been seeking the arrest of Meenakshi and her husband Rajendra for allegedly orchestrating the murder. The Purnekar family has been demanding concrete action from the investigating team and a time-bound probe into the murder.
The family had alleged that the material had not been presented before the court. On Monday, the family had told mediapersons that they were dissatisfied with the SIT probe and urged chief minister Devendra Fadnavis to appoint different officers to investigate the case.
She was questioned for more than seven hours, said sources. Thane: Former Thane mayor and Shiv Sena corporator Meenakshi Shinde appeared before the Special Investigation Team (SIT) at the Crime Branch office for questioning on Tuesday in connection with the murder of Shiv Sena (UBT) Manpada division chief Pradeep Purnekar in Sept.
