Rejecting allegations that 13 crore voters had been deleted during the SIR exercise, Chugh said the figure included people from different categories and did not represent wrongful deletions.

Gandhinagar : BJP leader Tarun Chugh, the party’s Gujarat in-charge, on Tuesday claimed that around three crore “infiltrators” from Bangladesh were among those who did not come forward to verify their eligibility as voters during the special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. “About 2.8 crore of these voters were deceased, while around six crore had shifted residence or were registered in multiple places,” he said. On the opposition’s allegations of vote theft, Chugh said the electoral system had multiple layers of verification, including booth-level agents appointed by political parties. So they have only changed names, their intention is the same – attack the country’s leadership, country’s institutions and our Constitution,” he said.

Addressing reporters at the state BJP headquarters, Chugh accused Congress leader Rahul Gandhi of attempting to protect ineligible voters by questioning the Election Commission of India ’s functioning. He alleged that Congress was targeting independent institutions to undermine their credibility. Now, they are pointing fingers at SIR saying a vote theft took place. Questioning the opposition’s claims, Chugh cited Congress victories in Kerala and Tamil Nadu and it forming govt in Telangana, as well as Arvind Kejriwal becoming Delhi chief minister three times.

“Earlier, they (opposition) used to blame EVMs.
