The emergence of CCTV footage has added a fresh dimension to the case

Kanpur: Lovely Professional University is leading with 6 points after the third round in the North Zone Inter-University Women Chess championship being held at CSJMU Kanpur.

Against Delhi University, Sumukhi Shukla of Kanpur displayed better strategic skills and won the game on board 1. On board 2, the tie between Jigyasa Meena (Kanpur) and Radhika Sharma (Delhi) was well contested and Jigyasa defeated her rival. In the middlegame, Jigyasa launched an attack on Radhika Sharma’s queenside while simultaneously preparing her own passed pawn. Through precise strategy and keen insight, she managed to regain the piece she had lost.

Panjab University and Delhi University are in second and third place respectively. Host CSJMU is in fourth place with five points, though they have defeated Delhi University. Both players began the game with the Four Knights Variation. In the opening phase, several sound and strategic moves were played by both sides. In response, Radhika created a passed pawn in the centre, making the contest even more challenging. In this position, Jigyasa had to sacrifice her bishop and ended up a pawn down. Jigyasa did not lose her patience; instead of giving up, she continued to search for better moves. The contest then transitioned into a rook endgame where, leveraging her advantage of two extra pawns, Jigyasa ultimately secured the victory.

Ties of the fourth round will be played on Wednesday at 10 am.
