The II additional chief judge, City Civil Courts, Hyderabad, passed interim directions after hearing KTR’s petition, in which he alleged that the respondent leaders had made malicious and defamatory statements affecting his personal and professional reputation and had also targeted his family members on digital and media platforms. KTR challenged allegations relating to drug consumption, attempts to portray him as a drug addict, claims that he promoted drug culture, and remarks concerning his personal relationships with women, film personalities and other prominent persons. Senior counsel P Vishwajanani, appearing for KTR, contended that the allegations were circulated through videos, interviews and news reports without verification, causing serious damage to his reputation. The court, after perusing the records, video screenshots and statements placed before it, observed that “the material prima facie indicated harm to the petitioner’s reputation. It further noted that allowing the disputed content to remain online would continue to cause irreparable loss and that the balance of convenience was in KTR’s favour. The court directed the respondents and media organisations to remove the disputed videos, articles and posts, and restrained further publication of such content, while issuing notices to all the respondents and adjourning the matter for further hearing.
