Jhala was a native of Kuda village in Banaskantha district and had joined the force as a PSI in 2017 as a direct recruit.
Jhala allegedly shot himself in the head inside a room at his home, according to preliminary information. Police sources said Jhala and his wife had frequent disputes. Police said investigators are also examining if professional pressures led to the suicide.
He lived at the police lines with his wife and their two children. Police will record statements of family members, friends and colleagues to establish what happened before his death. Jhala’s body was sent to the civil hospital for post-mortem and a forensics team was called to collect evidence from the scene. No suicide note has been found. Gandhinagar SP Ravi Teja Vasamsetty was not available for comment.
