Kottayam: Police have begun an investigation after a complaint that a man and a woman travelling in a car allegedly tried to take away two nine-year-old girls at Pazhakulam in Adoor on Monday evening.
The girls were returning home from madrassa around 6pm when the incident took place in a bushy stretch of KIP Canal Road near Mettumpuram Junction, according to the complaint. The children told their parents that the woman in the car repeatedly insisted she would drop them home. The car then sped away, the complaint said. Police said an investigation has begun.
Frightened, the girls refused to get in. Mariyath, who lives near the junction, witnessed the incident and raised an alarm. M Rahim, a member of Pallickal grama panchayat, filed a complaint with Adoor police on Wednesday.
The girls reached home visibly frightened, their parents said. The family initially assumed that relatives had come in the vehicle, but inquiries showed this wasn’t the case, they said. The children couldn’t sleep that night, the parents said.
