Kochi : A 77-year-old man was on Thursday sentenced to eight years in prison and fined Rs 15,000 for sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl. Paravur fast track special court, while sentencing Vijayan of Kozhithuruthu in Puthenvelikkara, added that if he fails to pay the fine, he will have to undergo an additional six months in prison.
The incident occurred on Oct 18, 2021. The arrested persons are Tony, 30, of Pulpally, Wayanad; Febin, 27, of Thalakkode, Neriamangalam and Favas, 30 of Oonnukal. Based on the statement of the girl, Puthenvelikkara Police registered an FIR and investigated the case. The charge sheet was later filed by then sub-inspector Vicky Joseph. Special public prosecutor Pravitha Gireesh Kumar appeared for the prosecution. The court also ordered that the fine amount collected from him be paid to the survivor.
