Police said the girl, a BTech student, and her friend made up a story that she had been abducted and kept in a hotel. The account reportedly belonged to the male friend’s mother, police said. She called her father, crying and seeking money for her release. Her male friend, posing as the abductor, called her father and supposedly threatened him that his daughter would not be freed unless money was paid. The doctor transferred money in several instalments to an account provided by the two. The case widened when the elder daughter called her younger sister and asked her to meet her. They later detained the elder daughter after finding evidence of her role in the alleged plan. Download the TOI App.
