SpaceX’s 34.5% of its revenue during the last quarter came from a single client paying, identified as ‘Customer B’, and it is the company whose CEO Elon Musk told: I do not agree with your donation to …
SpaceX’s AI business turned profitable for the first time during the quarter, helping support Musk’s target of reaching $100 billion in annualised revenue by the end of 2026. Earlier this month, the Claude-maker said that it will give away 5% of shares. “In total, this means that roughly 20% of Anthropic’s shares are committed to the public good. Our co-founders have already pledged to donate 80% of their equity, and around half our employees are donating a portion of their equity as part of a donation matching program we’ve run since our founding,” the post continues.
As stated in the report, the revenue comes from deals Anthropic signed with SpaceX earlier this year to use computing capacity at the company’s data centres in Memphis, Tennessee.
Dario Amodei-led Anthropic is SpaceX ’s largest single customer that accounts for more than one-third of its revenue, a source told Bloomberg. The space company led by Elon Musk revealed in a filing next week that nearly 34.5% of its revenue during the last quarter came from a single client identified as “Customer B”. The revelation comes days after Elon Musk said that he does not agree with Anthropic’s donation of its shares to the Anthropic Public Benefit Fund, a new wholly owned entity dedicated entirely to the public benefit. “For every 50% increase in the company’s value over a set baseline, we can contribute up to an extra 2%, subject to our board’s discretion,”Anthropic, led by Dario Amodei, said. “I recommend giving the shares directly to the public,” Elon Musk wrote. “This is what I will be doing,” he said in another post.
Anthropic, as per the report, is paying its AI division, now called Super Intelligence, which supplies computing power. Elon Musk has been expanding SpaceX’s AI business by renting out computing capacity from its data centres to other companies. These include Anthropic and Google, which is part of Alphabet. The strategy appears to be paying off. Elon Musk replied to Anthropic’s announcement recommending shares be distributed directly to the public instead of routed through an intermediary entity.
Notably, Spacex’s revenue from Anthropic has surpassed payments from the US federal government, which was previously its biggest single customer.
