Union Home minister Amit Shah receives a warm welcome from deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya upon his arrival, in Lucknow on Friday
Lucknow: Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya on Friday moved a political resolution at the BJP State Working Committee meeting, projecting the 2027 Assembly election as a decisive ideological contest between “development and nationalism” on one side and “destruction and caste politics” on the other. The resolution categorically called for an aggressive organisational push, social outreach across communities and a renewed focus on booth-level strengthening even as the party gears up for the state elections due early next year. Maurya asserted that the political environment in Uttar Pradesh remained favourable to the BJP despite the opposition’s attempts to forge alliances.
Referring to the 2022 Assembly election, he noted that the BJP and its allies won 278 seats despite the opposition’s efforts to build a broad coalition.
In an apparent reference to INDIA bloc, Maurya said while “14-15 parties” had joined hands with the objective of defeating the BJP, they had failed to dent the party’s electoral dominance since 2014. The election would be a battle of “vinash versus vikas” (destruction versus development) and “casteism versus nationalism, according to the document. It accused the opposition of lacking policy, intent and leadership while relying on allegations and divisive politics. The resolution alleged that the Samajwadi Party and Congress were trying to create social divisions by fuelling caste tensions in the state. Maurya argued that opposition parties had repeatedly attempted to unite anti-BJP forces but failed to dislodge the party from power. It called upon party leaders and workers to work collectively, maintain unity and take the achievements of state and central govts to voters.
