DGP Rajeev Krishna on Saturday directed police units across the state to intensify market patrolling, revamp traffic management, conduct strict inspections of firecracker shops and strengthen women’s safety measures
To enhance police visibility, UP-112 emergency response vehicles have been directed to carry out slow and continuous patrols in their assigned areas, even when no emergency calls are pending.
The DGP said patrol plans should be based on assessments of recent crimes, local crime trends and other policing challenges in their respective jurisdictions. The directions were issued during a statewide review meeting attended by zonal ADGs, police commissioners, range IGs and DIGs, and district SSPs and SPs. The DGP stressed proactive policing and a visible police presence ahead of the festivities, directing officers to prioritise public safety and convenience. Senior police officers and station house officers have been instructed to personally conduct evening patrols in crowded markets, commercial centres and other sensitive locations. During foot patrols, officers have been asked to interact with traders, shopkeepers and residents, address public grievances and resolve local issues wherever possible.

He also directed officials to ensure that temporary firecracker shops operate only in designated open spaces away from densely crowded markets. Shop owners must possess valid licences and maintain mandatory safety arrangements, including water, sand and fire extinguishers. Enhanced security arrangements have also been ordered at bus stations, railway stations and other crowded public places, particularly during Bhai Dooj , when large numbers of women are expected to travel. Separately, ADG (Law and Order) Amitabh Yash directed officers to analyse the geographical spread and inter-district links of gangs, trace illegal arms suppliers and drug trafficking channels, and coordinate with the STF and police units in other districts to dismantle organised criminal networks through joint operations.
