The house in Indira Nagar, in Meerut’s Brahmpuri area, had remained sealed since Saurabh’s murder on March 3, 2025. Police arrested Muskan and Sahil on March 18, 2025. The Allahabad high court on Tuesday fixed November 30 for hearing an appeal filed by Muskan and Sahil challenging the death sentence awarded to them by a Meerut court.

The house owner, Ompal Singh, said a “shuddhikaran” (purification ritual) and a “havan” would be held after Diwali in the part of the house where Saurabh Rajput was killed. The premises will also be thoroughly cleaned and painted before they are put to use again. His wife Muskan and her lover Sahil murdered him, dismembered his body and concealed the remains in a blue drum filled with cement. The property was reopened last Wednesday in the presence of police personnel. After breaking the locks, officers inventoried the belongings left inside and handed them over to Saurabh’s brother, Rahul alias Bablu. For the family, returning to the house was an emotional ordeal. Saurabh’s mother, Renu Devi, and his brother broke down in tears when they entered the room where he had been killed. Saurabh, who worked in the merchant navy, was killed inside the house he shared with Muskan as a tenant. A bench of Justices Salil Kumar Rai and Padam Narain Mishra passed the order on the appeal filed by the two convicts. Download the TOI App.
MEERUT: Nearly 19 months after a merchant navy officer was murdered inside a rented house in Meerut, the property is set for a ritual intended to cleanse it of the memories of the crime.
Both were convicted in the case and sentenced to death.
