When the SP was in power, the slogan ‘Dekho Sapai, Bitia Ghabraai’ was common

The emergence of CCTV footage has added a fresh dimension to the case

Gorakhpur : Attacking the previous Samajwadi Party govt of patronising criminals, promoting lawlessness and turning Uttar Pradesh into a hub of crime, chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday said that when the party was in power, the slogan ‘dekh Sapai, bitiya ghabrai’ was common.

He said the BJP govt, in contrast, had given 10 lakh govt jobs to youths in the past 10 years while transforming the state’s law and order situation. The chief minister said that before 2017, poor sanitation, waterlogging and contaminated drinking water had contributed to the spread of encephalitis, malaria, dengue and other waterborne diseases, claiming that thousands of children fell ill and died prematurely. Addressing a programme organised to inaugurate and lay the foundation stones of development projects worth Rs 288 crore in the Chauri Chaura assembly constituency, the CM said the British sentenced 172 people, including farmers, labourers and traders, to death following the Feb 4, 1922 violence, where protestors set fire to a local police station, resulting in the deaths of several cops.

Highlighting the BJP govt’s achievements, he said it had introduced initiatives such as ‘one district, one medical college’, ‘one district, one product’ and ‘one district, one cuisine’.

““Samajwadi Party means inviting criminals, while Bharatiya Janata Party means becoming the harbinger of change,” the CM said, while addressing a public meeting in Chauri Chaura after inaugurating development projects. The government had also dismantled mafia networks, he said. The chief minister said a city free from mosquitoes and mafia could progress rapidly.

“What moral values are the Congress and Samajwadi Party leaders talking about? When the SP was in power, the slogan ‘Dekho Sapai, Bitia Ghabraai’ was common. Every girl was scared of going to school, and traders were afraid to run their businesses. Before every festival, disturbances would begin, and curfews and riots became common.

“Congress leaders make a lot of noise about Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru being a great lawyer, but the truth is that after the Chauri Chaura incident, he did not come forward to defend the 172 people sentenced to death by the British,” the chief minister claimed.
