Pune received showers in the early hours of Sunday
Pune: The city and surrounding areas witnessed light showers in the early hours of Sunday, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting further rainfall in parts of the region.
The city and neighbouring areas recorded light and scattered rainfall during the 24-hour period ending at 8.30am on Nov 1, according to IMD data. Among the local observatories, NDA recorded the highest rainfall at 3mm, followed by Shirur (2mm) and Ambegaon (1.5mm). Other areas reported relatively lower rainfall, including Bhor and Malin (0.5mm each) and Pashan (0.4mm).
Weather conditions across Western Maharashtra have remained variable, with isolated rainfall reported in Pune, Kolhapur, Satara, Sangli and Solapur districts.
“These overlapping meteorological conditions are resulting in localised cloud formation and intermittent spells of rainfall across parts of Maharashtra,” a senior IMD official said. IMD has forecast light to moderate rain, accompanied by thunder, lightning and gusty winds, at isolated places in Kolhapur and Satara districts, as well as parts of the Konkan region. IMD officials attributed the changing weather conditions to prevailing atmospheric systems over the region. A well-marked low-pressure area persists over the southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal, drawing moisture towards parts of the southern and western peninsular regions.
